Molson Coors’ sales fall on lower beer demand in Canada, Europe

Molson Coors says it is looking to Colorado for insight on the possible effects the legalization of marijuana in Canada could have on its beer sales.

Stewart Glendinning, CEO of Molson Coors International, was asked by an analyst Tuesday during the company's quarterly earnings conference call for his opinion on the potential impact the legalization of marijuana could have on Canada's beer sector.

"Cannabis is something we are thinking very carefully about, not only as a business but also as an industry," Glendinning, who was the former head of Molson Coors' operations in Canada, said in response.

"There's just a lot we don't know at the moment. ... It's steady as she goes because of the lack of clarity about the deployment of the drug itself."

It's not clear whether Glendinning's comments are a signal that Molson Coors views a recreational marijuana industry as a threat or opportunity. He did not elaborate and the company did not return calls seeking clarification.

But during the call, Glendinning said Molson Coors (NYSE:TAP) is looking to Colorado, the state where the recreational use of marijuana was legalized in 2013 and where the company is headquartered, for guidance.

The federal government has said it plans to introduce a bill in the spring to legalize the recreational use of marijuana.

Stephen Beaumont, an industry watcher and Canadian author on beer trends, said the Colorado breweries he follows have not reported any impact on sales.

"It could be one of those things that hit more at mass-market breweries because if someone wants to get a buzz on instead of buying Coors Light, they'll buy some weed," he said.

"On the West Coast of the United States, craft beer and marijuana have happily co-existed for quite some time."

Brittany Weissman, an analyst with Edward Jones, said any possible effect from marijuana legalization in Canada on Molson Coors' beer sales will be mitigated. She said that's due to the fact that Canada represents a smaller share of the company's market following the US$12.2 billion acquisition of Miller brands and SABMiller's 58 per cent stake in MillerCoors.

10 Surprisingly Healthy Packaged Foods

Convenient Can Also Be Healthy!

You've probably heard this advice before: For a healthy grocery trip, shop the perimeter of the store. Avoiding the middle aisles is a good tactic to help you make great choices and pick the most nutritious foods, but if you stick to this advice completely you'll be missing out on some of the nutritious items that do come in packages. These packaged foods—not to be confused with "processed" foods—can give you some great nutrients and make meal planning easier, saving you precious time.

You can feel good about buying some boxed, canned and jarred items when you're equipped with the right information. Understanding what you're looking for is the first step to healthy choices within the supermarket aisles.

Here's a list of the healthiest convenience foods you can buy from the center of the grocery store.

Canned Beans

Though dried beans are cheaper than canned, they can take a lot of time to cook. Canned beans pack an impressive amount of fiber and protein and can be a quick addition to many meals. Pinto, kidney, cannellini (white kidney), black, Great Northern—name any bean, they're all great sources of nutrition for your body. When you're choosing your beans, look for ones without added salt or seasoning. Before using your beans, drain and rinse them in a colander when you're ready to cook. This will help wash added sodium down the drain--40% of the sodium to be exact.

Oats and Flaxseed

Prepare to have a heart-healthy breakfast by combining old-fashioned oats and ground flaxseed, both found packaged in either cartons or bags. One cup of cooked oatmeal with 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed will give you 8 grams of much needed fiber, as well as a dose of omega-3 fatty acids, which each protect the heart. Choose old-fashioned oats over quick oats or instant oatmeal to ensure you're getting the maximum amount of fiber without added salt and sugar.

Frozen Vegetables

These can be nearly as nutritious as fresh and are conveniently prewashed and chopped. To ensure you're getting the maximum amount of vitamins and minerals available, use the vegetables within a few weeks as some nutrients may begin to degrade over time. Also, steam or microwave your veggies rather than boiling them to make sure you're not losing water-soluble vitamins. Grab some edamame for a nutrient-packed snack, heat up some chopped broccoli as a side dish or combine a stir-fry mix with shrimp in a shallow pan and heat with a bit of olive or canola oil.
Frozen Berries
When it comes to meeting your daily fruit requirement, you can't beat frozen. Many frozen berries do not have added sugar, but some do. Double check that the ingredients list contains berries to make sure you're not getting extra calories from refined sugars. Then, add them to oatmeal, cereal, yogurt or make a smoothie.

Why Omega-3?

Omega-3 fatty acids are vital for many aspects of health, and many of us are not getting enough of them.

The University of Maryland Medical Center explains that Omega-3 fatty acids may be useful for:

  • Reducing the risk of heart disease and causes of death associated with heart disease
  • Reducing severity of symptoms associated with diabetes
  • Reducing pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis
  • Reducing risk of osteoporosis and bone loss
  • Improving health and reducing symptoms for those with autoimmune disease
  • Helping those with anxiety, depression or bipolar disorder
  • Reducing risk of various types of cancers
  • Improving cognitive function

As I explained before, there are two main types of Omega-3s:

Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), found in certain vegetable oils, walnuts, and some green vegetables.
The other type, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), is found in fatty fish.
The body can convert some ALA to EPA & DHA but is not very efficient at this process, so it is important to also consume sources of EPA/DHA. These nutrients are especially recommended during pregnancy and nursing (and are in most prenatal vitamins) because only certain forms of DHA are transferred across the placenta.

Know about Omega-3 Industry at: https://www.alliedmarketresearch.com/omega-3-market

Ratio Matters

Omega-3s are important, but what is even more important, is consuming a healthy ratio of Omega-6 and Omega-3 fats. Both Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats are considered polyunsaturated fats because they have many double bonds. In general, we need much smaller amounts of these polyunsaturated fats than we do of healthy forms of saturated fats, but they are still vitally important. Our bodies aren’t able to produce polyunsaturated fats so we must get them from diet (this is the reason they are called “essential fatty acids”).

Omega-6 fats are found in many processed foods, vegetable oils, processed grains and soy.  Omega-6 fats increase inflammation (source) while Omega-3 fats can help reduce inflammation.

The ideal ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fats is 1:1  (and not higher than 4:1) but most people are consuming much higher amounts of Omega-6 fats (up to 30:1) . Higher amounts of Omega-6 can contribute to inflammation within the body and to disease.

Omega-3s (like all nutrients) are best obtained from food, but with environmental toxins and sourcing concerns, it isn’t always possible or feasible to consume enough real food sources of Omega-3s.

The Devil in the Details

All fish oil supplements are not created equal. Certain forms of fish oil contain altered forms of Omega-3s and can actually contribute to inflammation.

Many Omega-3 supplements are in ethyl ester form, which is an altered form created when ethanol is fused with the fish oil. This creates an extremely pure fish oil concentrate, but not one that is very bioavailable. These types of fish oils are often hard to digest and can oxidize easily. The real difference, however, is in the digestion of these different types of fish oils. The natural triglyceride form breaks down easily in the small intestine and can be absorbed (source). Fish oils in the ethyl ester form are much more difficult for the body to break down and are not absorbed as easily once broken down.

The natural triglyceride (TG) form is purified but still in a form that the body recognizes and can easily digest. It can be taken without food and doesn’t go rancid or smell strongly.

Choose Organic Baby Food for Health & Safety of Baby

Preparing baby food is less expensive, takes less time, and safer. Preference to organic food would be the right decision for health of babies.

Baby food is soft, easily consumable food made for babies. Changing lifestyle has increased demand for packaged baby food over traditional homemade soft cooked food. This food is given to children aged between six months to two years. Increasing awareness for nutrition of babies, growing urbanization, rise in organized retail marketing along with increase in population of working women are factors responsible for increasing demand. The World Health Organization recommends starting food intake in small amounts. The intake gradually increases as the child gets older. As per WHO guidelines, 2 to 3 meals per day is recommended for infants 6 to 8 months of age, 3 to 4 meals per day with 1 or 2 additional snacks for infants aged between 9 to 23 months.

Its new product, Clearly Crafted, has transparent plastic packaging, recipes listed on packaging along with ingredients list, and logos of verification from USDA-Certified Organic and Non-GMO Project. Happy Family has been developing transparent packages from few years, as transparency is in demand from customers when it comes to food. The company believes that the recipes on the pouch provide clarity on the ingredients, which is a requirement of US regulatory bodies. The new product line, Clearly Crafted, includes 12 varieties of organic fruit and vegetable purees. It is available for babies of age 4 months and older through various online platforms.

"We developed Clearly Crafted with this in mind. But more than just the obvious word ‘transparency’ in the packaging is that Clearly Crafted is about transparency in general. That’s the exciting part about it: to provide total and exact clarity to the parent on what they’re getting. Our line has set the bar in the industry for everyone, ideally, to follow.”

Myths Debunked About Baby Food:

  • The Myth: Making baby food is time consuming.
    • The Reality: Preparing baby food takes little time.
  • The Myth: Making baby food is expensive.
    • The Reality: The cost for preparing baby food is less
  • The Myth: You have to be a good cook to make baby food
    • The Reality: You are preparing food for baby, not for food critic. You don’t have to be a good cook

Updated With The Health Benefits of Fish Oil ? Read more then !

The health benefits of fish oil include its ability to aid in the treatment of various heart diseases, high cholesterol, depression, anxiety, ADHD, weakened immune system, cancer, diabetes, inflammation, arthritis, IBD, AIDS, Alzheimer’s disease, eye disorders, macular degeneration and ulcers. It also helps aid weight loss, healthy pregnancy, fertility and skin care (particularly for conditions such as psoriasis and acne).

Most of the health benefits of fish oil can be attributed to the presence of omega 3 essential fatty acids like Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Other useful essential fatty acids in fish oil include Alpha-linolenic acid or ALA and Gamma-linolenic acid or GLA.
While fish oil has plenty of beneficial qualities, there is lot of buzz and hype around its possible applications, and not all of them are accurate, so be wary when reading literature on this useful oil. Fish oil manufacturers have attempted to market it as a remedy for almost anything. Below, we’ll explore the various, proven benefits of fish oil, some of which are based on concrete scientific evidence while others are based on animal studies alone. We suggest that readers educate themselves full before making an informed decision, rather than be affected by both negative and positive propaganda about the beneficial applications of fish oil.
The different types of fish which can be a good source of its oil are mackerel, rainbow trout, lake trout, halibut, herring, sea bass, sardines, swordfish, oysters, albacore tuna, blue fin tuna, yellow fin tuna, turbot, pilchards, anchovies and salmon. The most common ones among these for obtaining oil are albacore tuna, herring, mackerel, sardines, lake trout and salmon. The quality of fish oil greatly depends on the type of fish from which you retrieve the oil.

Health Benefits of Fish Oil

The health benefits of fish oil include the following:

Heart Health: According to the American Heart Association (AHA), clinical trials have shown that omega 3 is effective in reducing the incidence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Fish oil is a great source of omega 3 and therefore, reduces the risk of heart diseases and heart arrhythmias. It also lowers the level of bad cholesterol (LDL), and increases the level of good cholesterol (HDL). Fish oil prevents the accumulation of triglycerides and further reduces the level of excess triglycerides. Preliminary research has also shown that fish oil can be used to prevent atherosclerosis in coronary patients. Thus, fish oil is effective in preventing strokes and regular usage of fish oil can help avoid sudden cardiac death. As per the American Heart Association, these preliminary findings still need to be confirmed by further detailed research.

Weight Loss: It has also been popularized as an aid in losing weight. Research conducted by Professor Peter Howe at the University of South Australia has shown that fish oil improves the efficacy of exercise in attempts to reduce weight. Volunteers who were given fish oil in their diet showed greater weight loss as compared to those who did not regularly consume it. Exercise combined with the oil had a positive effect on body shape and composition of the participating patients.

Improved Immunity: It is believed that regular consumption of fish oil aids in boosting your immune system, thereby enabling you to resist the occurence of common diseases like colds, coughs and the flu. Omega-3 fatty acids present in fish oil bolster the immune system by effecting the activity and amount of cytokines and eicosanoids present in our body. Researchers have also studied the effect of fish meal and fish oil on the immune system of pigs and found that fish oil aided in the growth of the animals. Similar research conducted on mice at Taichung Veterans General Hospital, Taiwan, also gave positive results.Basically, fish oil has the potential to enhance the immune system of humans, but again, further research on humans is required. Fish oil is also beneficial to patients suffering from lupus, which is an autoimmune disease characterized by the immune system attacking its own organs and tissues. Studies have also shown fish oil to help in reducing associated fever, skin rashes and fatigue.

AIDS: Research conducted by the Nutritional Sciences Program in Lexington has argued for fish oil as a treatment for AIDS.However, a great deal of research still needs to be conducted on this.
Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Fish oil is effective in reducing inflammation in the blood and tissues. Regular consumption of fish oil supplements, tablets, pills and capsules is helpful to those who suffer from chronic inflammatory diseases. Fish oil is effective in treating gastrointestinal disorders, Celiac disease, short bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) including Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis, which are both typical disorders of the intestine. Patients suffering from Crohn’s disease often find it difficult to absorb vitamins, fats and essential supplements. Fish oil supplements are an effective diet for such patients.
In terms of ulcerative colitis, fish oil prevents the accumulation of leukotriene on the colon. Research is also being conducted to increase the anti-inflammatory reputation of fish oil, particularly when combined with other dietary supplements and drugs.

Arthritis: Fish oil is useful in the treatment of arthritis, rheumatism, Raynaud’s symptoms and similar conditions. Using fish oil can help in reducing the need for large dosages of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). The Royal Adelaide Hospital and the University of Newcastle, both of which are located in Australia, have reported that large quantities of fish oil have shown positive effects on the treatment of arthritis. In cases of osteoarthritis, fish oil can be helpful in reducing the impact of enzymes that destroy cartilage.
However, since the dosage of fish oil required for an ideal effect in the improvement of a patient is unknown, the Arthritis Center in the Department of Rheumatology at John Hopkins University considers including omega 3 fatty acids and fish oil in the treatment of arthritis as controversial. The University also cautions that arthritis patients must be wary of all the other side effects that can come from using of fish oil. You can read more about arthritis on the webpage of the Arthritis Foundation and the Arthritis Center.

Depression and Anxiety: Due to the presence of Omega 3 fatty acids, fish oil has been promoted for relieving depression, sadness, anxiety, restlessness, mental fatigue, stress, decreased sexual desire, suicidal tendencies and other nervous disorders. Researchers at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, in their research publication titled “Fish Oils and Bipolar Disorder: A Promising but Untested Treatment”, state that fish oil can be useful in mood stabilization and the treatment of bipolar disorders. It is unsurprising, therefore, that it has been found that countries where fish is frequently eaten have a low incidence of depression. Similarly, research conducted on prisoners has shown that when prisoners were given sea food containing higher amount of omega-3 fatty acids, there was a significant drop in the homicide rate and the frequency of violence. Intake of fish is also a good remedy for depression. Findings of a research study suggests that fish consumption may be beneficial for women’s mental health and reduce risk of developing depression in women.

Feeding Babies Foods With Peanuts Appears To Prevent Allergies

Babies at high risk for becoming allergic to peanuts are much less likely to develop the allergy if they are regularly fed foods containing the legumes starting in their first year of life.

In a landmark new study, researchers found that babies who consumed the equivalent of about 4 heaping teaspoons of peanut butter each week, starting when they were between 4 and 11 months old, were about 80 percent less likely to develop a peanut allergy by age 5. To avoid a choking hazard, doctors say kids should be fed peanuts mixed in other foods, not peanuts or globs of peanut butter.

That's according to a big new study released Monday involving hundreds of British babies. The researchers found that those who consumed the equivalent of about 4 heaping teaspoons of peanut butter each week, starting when they were between 4 and 11 months old, were about 80 percent less likely to develop a peanut allergy by their fifth birthday.

"This is certainly good news," says Gideon Lack of King's College London, who led the study. He presented the research at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. It was also published in The New England Journal of Medicine.

As many as 2 million U.S. children are estimated to be allergic to peanuts — an allergy that has been increasing rapidly in the United States, Britain and other countries in recent years. While most children who are allergic to peanuts only experience relatively mild symptoms, such as hives, some have life-threatening reactions that can include trouble breathing and heart problems.

"Peanut allergy can be extremely serious," Lack says.

Lack's study was launched after he noticed that Israeli kids are much less likely to have peanut allergies than are Jewish kids in Britain and the United States.

"My Israeli colleagues and friends and young parents were telling me, 'Look, we give peanuts to these children very early. Not whole peanuts, but peanut snacks,' " Lack says.

Peanut snacks called Bamba, which are made of peanut butter and corn, are wildly popular in Israel, where parents give them to their kids when they're very young. That's very different from what parents do in Britain and the United States, where fears about food allergies have prompted many parents to keep their children away from peanuts, even though the American Academy of Pediatrics revised a recommendation to do so in 2008.

"That raised the question whether early exposure would prevent these allergies" by training babies' immune systems not to overreact to peanuts, Lack says. "It's really a very fundamental change in the way we're approaching these children."

Stability trials help feed additive makers gain control !

Animal Feed Additives : Allied Market Research
Animal Feed Additives
Animal feeds are being used worldwide for reasons more than one. While some of them help cover requirements for vital nutrients, there are some that improve growth performance.

Thus, recent improvements in food intake as well as optimization of feed utilization has drawn many manufacturers to the animal feed additives market. Research analysts at Allied Market Research have been long involved in studying the share and size of different technological properties as well as product quality. They discovered that application of feed additives across several countries are still questioned by various consumer elements including the antibiotics. The animal feed additives market is valued at $32.1 billion by 2021 and is expected to register a CAGR of about 5.8 percent from 2015 to 2021.

Business expansion

Several agricultural product manufacturers are seen striking export deals with China. There is absolutely no doubt that the livestock industry in the country is developing extremely fast. This has increased both the dollar value and sales volume for feed additive manufacturers planning to expand their business in China.

In a recent incident, Frondita Biogroup backed a new export sales following its participation in a popular trade show in China. Commenting on the expansion plan, Arunas Vanagas, the chief executive officer at Frondita Biogroup said “We sell to other countries — a little in South America and Eastern Europe and the Middle East,” he said. “That is almost nothing compared to what we can do in China. Demand is big, and the the market is huge.”

Companies are expected to register in China before they ship the samples for trials. In April, 2016 Camlin Fine Science established its first activity in the United States and cleared its intentions about developing its footprint in the animal husbandry.

Growth in animal feed additives market

This year more and more U.S. producers in the United States will be seen replacing the inorganic mineral traces with the organic range to meet the regulations. Producers believe that the shift will help them focus on nutrition utilization along with fertility. Countries like Japan have already passed a regulation on the additives such as copper and zinc.

The regulation was passed after few government officials found contamination in feeds for pigs as well as poultry. In May 2016, Korea also passed a law on these two minerals. Government bodies worldwide are now determined to regulate the quantity of minerals that goes into animal feed as their role in polluting the environment around us is vital.

To participate, either form a team of six or note when you sign up that you’re an individual, so the Paramount can add you to a team.

And if you and your teammates prove to be the best at beer-soaked fun, you’ll get a shiny gold medal for your efforts, of course — as well as something rather appropriate for games like these: a free brewery tour and beer tasting at East Austin’s Blue Owl Brewing. The top three teams, in addition to their medals, will also receive a free drink at the Beerlympics after-party at Aussie’s Grill down the street.

The Beerlympics, which begins at 7 p.m. Aug. 4, is the first event of Paramount Social Presents, a new type of programming aiming to “target the next generation of arts patrons and supporters,” according to the Paramount. Other upcoming events of Paramount Social Presents include a comedy show from Bridget Everett and a musical performance from the Skivvies.
